VEHICLE FUEL DELIVERY TROUBLESHOOTING AND REPAIR If applicable otherwise places a replacement in service selection below. After order placement, recall with your order id using track your order.
Symptoms of
a Bad or Failing Throttle/Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor
Common signs of a faulty pedal position sensor include
inconsistent engine response│reduced fuel efficiency│ and the Check Engine Light
coming on│
This sensor's primary job is to monitor the position of the throttle
pedal and send an electronic signal to open the throttle body as you depress
the gas pedal. Although this device often lasts the entire lifespan of your
vehicle, there are occasions when it will fail, wear out, and need to be
replaced
1. Engine response is inconsistent
When you press down on the gas pedal, your engine should respond
directly and instantly. However, when a problem with the APP sensor exists, the
vehicle's ability to consistently accelerate or decelerate as directed by the
driver is reduced.
2. Engine does not run efficiently
When the APP sensor is not functioning properly, it will also cause problems with fuel efficiency. Besides monitoring
and applying throttle pressure to the throttle body, it also helps stabilize
throttle control.
3. Check Engine Light comes on
Since the APP sensor is monitored by the ECU, it is one of those
components that will trigger an error code in the ECU when an issue is
discovered. This will signal the Check Engine Light to illuminate on the
dashboard. Anytime this light is on, you should take it seriously as there are
multiple components that will trigger this warning light.
Symptoms of
a Bad or Failing Throttle Position Sensor
Common signs include lacking power when accelerating│ rough or
slow idle│ stalling │inability
to shift up │and the
Check Engine Light coming on│
The throttle position sensor (TPS) is part of your vehicle's fuel
management system, and helps ensure that the correct mixture of air and fuel is
delivered to your engine. The TPS provides the most direct signal to the fuel injection system of what power demands are
being made by the engine.
1. Car won’t accelerate, lacks power
when accelerating, or accelerates itself
It may feel as though the car simply
doesn't accelerate as it should. It may
accelerate smoothly, but lack power. On the flip side, it may be that your
car suddenly speeds up while you’re driving, even if you haven’t pressed the
accelerator. If these symptoms occur, there's a good chance you've got a
problem with the TPS.
2. Engine won’t idle smoothly, idles
too slowly, or stalls
If you start to experience engine misfires, stalling, or rough idling when the car is stopped, it can also
be a warning sign of a failing TPS. You don't want to wait to get this checked
out!
3. Car accelerates, but won’t exceed
a relatively low speed, or shift up
This is another failure mode of the
TPS, which indicates that it is falsely limiting the power being requested with
your accelerator pedal foot. You may find that your car will accelerate, but
not beyond a speed of 20 - 30 MPH. This symptom often goes hand in hand with
loss-of-power behavior.
4. Check Engine Light comes on,
accompanied by any of the above behaviors
The Check Engine Light may come on
if you’re having issues with your TPS. This isn’t always the case though, so
don’t wait for the Check Engine Light to illuminate before you get it checked
out. If you have any of the above symptoms, have your vehicle checked for
trouble codes to verify the source of the problem.
Symptoms of a
Bad or Failing Catalytic Converter
Common signs include reduced engine performance │rattling
sounds│ and the
Check Engine Light turning on│
A catalytic converter is a car component that works to reduce vehicle
emissions and pollution. It is a metal canister that is installed in the
exhaust system.
1. Reduced engine performance
One of the first symptoms commonly associated with a bad or failing
catalytic converter is a reduction in engine performance
2. Rattling noise
Rattling noises are another symptom of a bad or failing catalytic
converter.
3. Check Engine Light comes on
A bad or failing catalytic converter can also cause an illuminated
Check Engine Light.
Symptoms of
Bad or Failing Fuel Injector O Rings
Common signs include an odor of fuel in the car│ fuel leaks │and the
Check Engine Light coming on│
Fuel injector o rings are a component that is found on virtually all
vehicles equipped with fuel injectors. The injector o rings that seal the tip
of the injector with the intake manifold and fuel rail.
1. Fuel smell from the engine bay
One of the first symptoms of a
problematic fuel injector o ring is a fuel smell. If the fuel injector o rings
dry up or crack, they may leak fuel vapors that will cause a fuel smell from
the engine bay. The smell will eventually get stronger as the leak grows
larger.
2. Fuel leak
Another symptom of a problematic fuel injector o ring, which often
comes soon after the smell, is a fuel leak. If any of the o rings tear or wear
out they will leak fuel at the base, or top of the injector. Usually a fuel
leak will produce a very strong odor which may signal an issue.
3. Hard starting, misfires, and
decrease in power and acceleration
Another symptom of problematic fuel injector o rings is engine
performance issues. Engine performance issues occur after an injector o ring
has leaked enough to upset the vehicle's air fuel ratio
Symptoms of
a Bad or Failing Fuel Injector
Fuel injectors are an engine management component that is found on the vast
majority of road going vehicles. They are a part of the vehicle’s fuel system
and act as the nozzles that spray the fuel into the engine
1. Engine misfires and decrease in
power, acceleration, and fuel efficiency
One of the most common symptoms of a potential problem with a fuel
injector is engine performance issues.
2. Fuel odor
Another common symptom of a potential issue with a fuel injector is a
fuel smell.
3. Check Engine Light comes on
Another symptom of a potential issue with a fuel injector is an
illuminated Check Engine Light. If any of the fuel injectors become clogged and
cause a misfire, or experience an electrical issue the computer will set off
the Check Engine Light to alert the driver of the issue.
Symptoms of
Bad or Failing Fuel Injection Lines
Common signs include an odor of fuel in the car │engine
performance issues │ and fuel
leaks│
Fuel injection lines are the rubber hoses that vehicles with fuel
injection systems are equipped with. They are very similar in appearance and
function to regular fuel hoses, however they are strengthened with additional
layers that allow them to hold the significantly higher pressures generated by
fuel injection systems.
1. Fuel odor
One of the first symptoms of possible issue with fuel injection lines
is a fuel odor coming from the vehicle.
